Layered Pour Painting Workshop w/Linda Ryan (Gordon)

$130

with Linda Ryan Gordon

Calendar Next available session starts Sep 14, 2024

Linda Ryan will share what she’s learned in pioneering layered pour paintings – how to use various paints, mediums and tools to create loose, flowing artworks. You will start with basic small pours using transparent and opaque pigments, learn successful layering glazes with a simple hack, and move on to creating one to two larger, light-filled artworks. This workshop will give you the tools to begin exploring this interesting medium in a new and more directed, but still freeing, way, as well as avoiding some of the pitfalls of the medium.

About the instructor:

A graphite and pen and ink artist most of her life, Linda Ryan (Gordon) met her mid-life crisis head-on by learning to paint at age 40 and soon became active in community arts, starting ArtWalk Livermore in 2002, helping to start and run the Bothwell Arts Center, and the Art Exhibition Program at the Bankhead until 2015.Ryan had been painting abstract figuratives for almost 14 years when a hand injury – and an upcoming art exhibition – convinced her to take the pour painting she’d been playing with and make art.  Eventually, after falling in love with northern California coastal rocks and the waves that sculpt them, she used a 7-month stint as Artist in Residence in Mendocino to further develop the unique layered pour method she’s become known for.  Her work is in collections in 6 countries and across the states.
